The Eater Seattle Heatmap aims to answer the question, “Where should I eat right now?” for people trying to keep up with the city’s constantly changing dining landscape. It focuses on newer restaurants — typically opened or revamped significantly within the last six months or so — that are reshaping Seattle’s food scene for the better.
The beginning of 2024 brought a wave of notable new restaurants to Seattle, many of them the second or third locations of popular existing places. There’s a new Maíz and a new Old Salt in Ballard, Cookie’s Country Chicken recently announced an expansion into Pioneer Square, and Renee Erickson’s new restaurant Lioness opened on Phinney Ridge. At the same time, there are exciting new endeavors, like Beacon Hill’s somewhat mysterious Familyfriend, which doesn’t have a website or much of an Instagram presence. While 2024 remains a tough time for restaurants thanks to inflation and labor shortages, there’s still more than enough new restaurants to keep diners busy.
