A restaurant? No, not exactly. Actually, not at all. But local chefs, home cooks, food nerds and bibliophiles have been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Book Larder, which opens tomorrow at 11 a.m. What began as a dream of local literary force Kim Ricketts has been realized by Lara Hamilton, who took over Kim Ricketts Book Events before its beloved founder passed away.
The Fremont Avenue space evokes the same giddiness as San Francisco's Omnivore Books, but with the savvy addition of a kitchen and demonstration area. The space is also the new destination for author events. The calendar of book events already boasts a rather dazzling array of appearances including local luminaries like foul-mouthed seafood maven Becky Selengut and former Canlis chef (and future Marche restaurateur) Greg Atkinson, along with national names such as Top Chef victor Stephanie Izard and Christina Tosi of Momofuku Milk Bar.
UPDATE?Nancy Leson has a lovely piece about Book Larder and its back story that's absolutely worth a read.
