On Broadway, Altura is readying itself to begin dinner service tonight. The space is almost unrecognizable as the former Edgar the Store. Antique European-style flourishes warm up an otherwise spare space with enviable high ceilings. And the angel up on the mezzanine? She was reportedly rescued from a French chapel bombed during World War II. A long kitchen counter provides much of the seating, and old church pews stand in as seating for the banquettes. Larger groups can reserve the chef's table in the front window and have chef Nathan Lockwood preside over their meal. Make reservations and check out the menu (particularly the 3-4-5-course option) on the restaurant's website.
