David Makuen's Patty-Centric BuiltBurger Will Close

Sadly, the rumors are true. BuiltBurger just sent out an email confirming that their last day of operation will be 12/2. Per the email, the owners are now on the East Coast and have decided to "pause the BuiltBurger brand". Traca Savadogo, restaurant consultant and Examiner food writer, tweeted last weekend: "Is it true? @BuiltBurger pulled the plug on their resto. Cooks got the call. Owner now living out of state?" When we phoned the eatery last week to confirm, employees told us that they could not comment on the rumors. We also contacted husband and wife co-owners David and Rebecca Hoffman Makuen, without success.

Pioneer Square's BuiltBurger began as an exclusively online enterprise. To great excitement, it opened a bricks and mortar location in Pioneer Square a year ago. BuiltBurger also won 2011 Eater Seattle's Burger Week competition.
