Kent's Hot Java Hunnies Lays Off Middle Aged Baristas

New, 2 comments

Shirley Stagner, 47 and Tina Holcombe, 48 allege that they were laid off by Jim Honnies of Hot Java Hunnies, because Honnies thought they were too old for the job. According to Holcombe, Honnies told her "I'm going to get younger girls in here." Honnies claims that his Craigslist ad will be free from age restrictions. Though, he acknowledges that the new employee he just hired is in her 20s.

While Stagner and Holcombe have filed a complaint with the state, age discrimination laws in Washington only apply to employers with eight or more employees--and Hot Java Hunnies only has two. Check out the KOMO-TV News video.
