Lark sous chef Wiley Frank is taking his weekly pop-up Thai restaurant, Shophouse, into the great outdoors. Back in October Frank started serving street-level Thai fare on Monday nights at Licorous, Lark's cocktail sibling (and next door neighbor). Starting on Wednesday, April 27, Lark and the Shophouse crew will become a weekly fixture at the Columbia City Farmers Market, serving up curried fish cakes and other market-driven fare. Unlike Shophouse's sit-down menu, this food is meant to be eaten while you're walking around and checking out the farmers and other vendors, says Frank. In addition to the fish cakes (made with farmers market mainstay Loki Fish Co. salmon) he's planning some shellfish dishes as well as items that rely on the market's fresh produce.
Frank says the Monday night dinners will continue as usual, though not this Monday, April 25, since Licorous is booked for a private event. Oh yeah, and he's still sous chef next door in Jonathan Sundstrom's kitchen. So why Columbia City? Frank says the midweek, evening schedule was a good fit. Plus it's close to home for he and his wife Poncharee Kounpungchart (call her PK) who co-runs the show at Shophouse. Look for them Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m.
