Molly Moon's says its Madrona micro-shop will open on Tuesday, May 24 at 3 p.m. (with free kids scoops 'til 5 p.m.). The shop is essentially a tiny ice cream counter built into the front of the Madrona Laundromat on the neighborhood's main drag. The laundromat is sporting an official Molly Moon's sign that will no doubt serve as a beacon to crowds of families on sunny days and warm nights.
The shop was a sort of consolation prize after a wintertime contest where several neighborhoods vied for the next Molly Moon's location, and Madrona came in second to Queen Anne.
It will serve ice cream in pints and prepackaged scoops in lidded cups, as well as ice cream sandwiches. The shop will also be the only location selling Molly Moon's creation (and Seattle's latest dessert on a stick) sorbet popsicles known as Mollypops.
Meanwhile, Queen Anne should get its new location by Labor Day. The lease has been signed for the location at 321 W. Galer St., and construction begins in mid-June.
