Less than a week after opening its doors, Stopsky's Delicatessen suffered a small electrical fire over the weekend, sparked by the espresso machine. The restaurant originally hoped to reopen early this week, but now it's been pushed back to Friday while the Stopsky's team cleans up and replaces the machine.
It's been a tumultuous first week for Mercer Island's new Jewish deli. First it opened its doors to much acclaim, only to close them several hours later become mobs of eager diners ate all the food. In between, Stopsky's has been reliably packed with patrons seeking chef Robin Leventhal's reubens and latkes and baker Andrew Meltzer's bagels and other baked goods. Here's hoping next week proves a little calmer.
