It's easy to ignore the legally mandated health warnings restaurants must post on the menu, especially given the tiny fonts, and the fact that some half-hearted words of caution aren't likely to dissuade anyone already hell-bent on ordering the geoduck carpaccio. However it's always nice to see some restaurants have a little fun while fulfilling this legal obligation.
Here are some examples from four local menus; see if you can identify all four restaurants. Answers are below.
Here are the answers, in order appearance in the gallery:
1.) Anchovies & Olives
2.) Blackboard Bistro
3.) Smith
4.) Madison Park Conservatory
Smith owner Linda Derschang said she first borrowed the idea of a cheeky menu warning from Matt Dillon, who was having a little fun with the menu at the previous location of Sitka & Spruce. And should you see any other entertaining examples around town, Eater would love to hear about it.
