Taberna del Alabardero Closes in Belltown

A tipster let Eater know that Belltown Spanish restaurant Taberna del Alabardero closed yesterday, according to an email sent out to its mailing list this afternoon. The email says this abrupt departure from one of Belltown's main corridors isn't a good bye, "it is more like 'see you later.'"

The email continues, "We are really proud of what we did, we apologize for our mistakes and we really appreciate your support during these two years." The tapas restaurant, which opened in 2009, has another location in Washington DC, but the staff retained a heavy Spanish influence in both the kitchen and front of the house. The space boasts a prime patio and prominent First Avenue location...will it remain empty for long?

UPDATE?Nancy Leson checks in with GM Paco Pena, who says "Belltown, in the last year and a half, has become a very unpopular neighborhood."
