BALLARD—The businesses of the historic Kolstrand Building are turning one, and since those businesses include Walrus & the Carpenter and Staple & Fancy, the party's going to be good. Festivities happen on Sunday, August 7 in the parking lot out back from 3 to 9 p.m. The plan: live music; grilled oysters; raw oysters; Rain Shadow hot dogs and sausages; beer, wine; oyster farmers and an amateur shuck-and-slurp competition. There's even face painting (yes, this is all-ages). Proceeds benefit the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance. [EaterWire]
CAPITOL HILL—Chef Jason Stratton says patrons at his new Italian bar Artusi have been keen on entrees, and so the menu of small plates has a few new, larger additions. These include veal breast with black truffle bruschetta, slow-roastsed goat over a black rice polenta, and zucchini a la parmigiana. [EaterWire]
FREMONT—Pizza chainlet Zaw has opened a new Fremont location, close to both Pagliacci and Tutta Bella, says Jess Voelker. And, yes, beleaguered meat chain Bill the Butcher is opening a shop nearby. [Seattle Met]
QUEEN ANNE—Queen Anne View says the former Nucleus hair salon location is becoming Mo's Sub Co. There isn't too much other info at this point, though the View notes that "whoever “Mo” is, we’re guessing he’s not from around here, considering the misspelling of Queen Anne (sans the last ‘e’) in the sign."
