After winning awards, acclaim and adoration from media both local and national, Fremont restaurant Revel is retiring its much-loved (even dessert-averse Hanna Raskin is a fan) ice cream and sweet sandwiches from the menu.
From here on out, Rachel Yang and Seif Chirchi's restaurant will have a new dessert theme each month, courtesy of pastry chef Anna Ivers, whose working relationship with the couple dates back to their days at Coupage.
August's theme is frozen sweets. Currently on the dessert list: chocolate semifreddo with raspberry, lemon and thyme; watermelon granita with coconut panna cotta; and Thai basil and a peach ice cream with almond streusel and tamarind caramel.
Next month's theme will be "topped off," which means crumbles, cobbler and a brown betty. Revel has been mixing things up of late, with its summertime "grill shack" that turns the restaurant's patio into a clam bake, or den of whole-roasted pig, lamb and goat. And let's not forget about sibling restaurant Joule's internationally themed Sunday barbecues.
