Zephyr Paquette, Tamara Murphy's longtime right hand at Elliott Bay Cafe, is taking over the kitchen at for-sale wine bar Poco Wine Room. Her predecessor, Ally Rael, is off to travel in Costa Rica and pursue other adventures.
The news comes by way of Poco's latest newsletter, where owners Peter Moore and Bart Reynolds also write, "we've heard shocking rumors that Poco is closing, which comes as a surprise to us!" The duo says they are "talking with some great potential buyers, and we're expecting to have some great news for you later this year."
One of those great potential buyers is Paquette herself. The chef, who left Elliott Bay Cafe in the spring, has been looking for a space of her own on Capitol Hill, and says taking over Poco is a definite possibility...if she can gather up enough investors. Meanwhile, Paquette plans to get maximum mileage out of Poco's limited kitchen. "I've changed a bunch of things," she says. "The new menu is cool and ever developing."
