Starbucks Declares Penny War on Manhattan

starbucks_coffee.jpgNew Yorkers are miffed at Starbucks for raising the price of a tall coffee by ten cents, which when you add in sales tax, amounts to $2.01. Apparently, Starbucks is well aware that Manhattanites would be inconvenienced by the new price structure but chose to go ahead anyway. What is the mermaid's solution for avoiding a penny total? Starbucks suggests buying more than a tall coffee: "If you bought a coffee and, say, a bagel, you might not notice the price so much,” noted Jim Olson, a Starbucks VP. [NYT]
