Japanese and French Fusion Restaurant Gambas Closes

Gambas, the plucky "Japanese and French" restaurant on Third Avenue opposite Belltown's Doggie Park, has closed. A spokesman says the owners, Ganbat Puntsag and his wife, Sally, have moved to Los Angeles for family reasons.

The restaurant, which opened in 2009, featured a sushi bar ($1 at happy hour) plus lamb chops, steaks and seafood. Born in Mongolia, Gambas (as everyone called him) cooked at Joon's Mongolian Grill in Denver, before moving to Seattle. The real estate agent representing the property, Conrad Topacio, says new, "highly experienced" owners intend to remodel and open with a new concept as soon as possible.
