Less than a year ago, the owners of Wallingford's Cantinetta opened an Italian-style market and sandwich shop, Mercato Stellina, in the new One Main Street condominiums of Old Bellevue.
The plan seemed like a good idea to Cantinetta owners Trevor Greenwood and Wade Moller: the Mercato would sell pastas and sauces made at Cantinetta, along with a variety of Italian specialty products in addition to panini and wine. But the concept of an upscale minimart didn't fly in Bellevue any better than in Belltown, where Local 360 struggled and failed with a similar "nighborhood market" project. So, g-gulp, Greenwood and Moller closed Mercato Stellina for a quick remodel a couple of months ago and have now reopened the spot as Mercato Stellina Pizzera.
It's being described as a Tuscan-style pizza parlor, with pies baked in a newly purchased brick oven. The restaurant has also added a full bar (with a 4-6 PM happy hour) and updated the layout of the restaurant to provide more seating for customers.
