Renée Erickson's third Seattle restaurant, The Whale Wins opened over the weekend in Fremont. The white walls and romantic charm of the place is reminiscent of her pioneering work at Boat Street Cafe, while the building and architecture echo nationally celebrated oyster bar The Walrus and the Carpenter. In partnership with Jeremy Price and Chad Dale once more, Erickson puts the focus on wood-fired food and vegetable plates. In her words, expect "piles of delicious, ripe, seasonal vegetables, wood oven fired meats and fish, and pickled treats--favorites from my childhood and my travels [in Southern Europe and Northern Africa]--will be displayed in abundance."
According to Seattle Met, the "Hello" ceiling feature was inspired by Erickson's friend, artist Jeffry Mitchell. The Whale Wins is open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday thru Saturday and closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays. The restaurant serves a limited menu between 2 and 5 p.m.
