Hear Ye, Hear Ye, the hotly anticipated Restaurant Zoe opens today on Capitol Hill at 5 pm. We just got the official word from a rep. We had a look at the restaurant on Friday night and gird yourself for sexiness. Though much smaller in actual square footage, the space feels much larger than the Belltown version--perhaps due to the higher ceilings and rectangular floor plan. Nearly a third of it is occupied by the bar area. Situated right across the street from Skillet Diner and a scosh away from Marjorie, hipsters, metrosexuals and bohemians can intermingle in this newly hot East Union area. Zoe already serves up cocktails using next door neighbor Oola Distillery's spirits. Now, to get Lucky 8's China House in the mix . . . . Here's a look at the current menu.
In June 2011, after more than a decade in Belltown, Zoe's owner and chef Scott Staples announced that he would relocate Zoe to Capitol Hill. Just after the new year, Staples offered up "Founding Diner" memberships to Zoe friends and fans, who could pony up cash to finish the Capitol Hill project. Just a few weeks ago, Staples commented that the Capitol Hill iteration of Zoe will be more like opening a new restaurant than a reopening of the Belltown one.
