Restaurant Zoe opened last week, and the buzz has largely been positive--especially about the transformation wrought in the old La Panzanella bakery space on East Union. Heather and Scott Staples have likened reopening Zoe on Capitol Hill to opening a new restaurant. The rustic touches in the new Zoe such as the copper bar and worn-wood furnishings set it apart from the Belltown incarnation. Scott Staples tells us that the new space is much smaller than the old one: "The Belltown location was 4400 square feet seating 90 people. Our new space is half that and seating 49 people (our rent is half!). Our patio seats 30 people." The new space appears spacious, because of the clean lines, higher ceilings, and rectangular floor plan.
