Pioneer Square's Mediterranean Mix announced its expansion to the CD a few months ago, and Central District News reports that the new location is now open, with a slightly different name--Med Mix. As its name implies(and as can be seen by large signs on the window), the eatery serves up gyros, falafael, pizza, subs, soups, and a signature chicken and rice. Owner Otmane Bezzaz also runs Pioneer Square's historic J&M Cafe.
Beehive Bakery briefly occupied this corner site, prior to shuttering last November. Before that, this former Philly Cheese Steak building was the site of two murders. Central District neighbors have hopes of a turnaround for the tragic corner. CDN says that vegetarian-friendly bar The Neighbor Lady which is a couple of doors away looks very close to opening, as well.
