Heather Earnhardt's The Wandering Goose could be as transformational for the neighborhood, as Linda Derschang's pub Smith was, when it was established in 2007. 15th Avenue was a lot sleepier in the pre-Smith era. Eater recently visited Earnhardt at the future site of the bakery, and she still projects a late June open.
Two significant developments since the last Plywood: 1) Earnhardt has established a Founders Club, where customers can prepay for meals at Wandering Goose, once it is open and 2) The 30-seat southern bakery will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Based on her Volunteer Park Cafe experience, Earnhardt estimated that she would need $250k to build out the restaurant. A silent partner/investor and Fuel Coffee's Dani Cone have kicked in $100k, and $150k remains to be funded. And, that's where Earnhardt fans and supporters come in. Similar to Scott Staples funding scheme in opening Restaurant Zoe, for every dollar amount given by a future customer, they get 25% in additional credit(so for the base level contribution of $1,000, you will get a $1,250 gift card to spend at the bakery). The rewards get richer at the $5,000 level, which nets you $7500. If you would like to hand, but all of this is too rich--consider a $500 contribution, which will net you a $50 gift card and an invitation to the opening party.
