Autumn Martin, formerly the head chocolatier at Theo Chocolates, opened Hot Cakes in Old Ballard on Monday. Martin has recruited Lucy Damkoehler, formerly the head pastry chef at Mistral Kitchen to be her kitchen manager. The dessert shop seats about 26 guests, including six counter spots. Martin is serving organic comfort desserts and confections, a few savory items(such as pocket pies and grilled cheese sandwiches), and the cookies, pocket pies, and namesake molten chocolate cakes. Drinking options include espresso from Blue Star Coffee Roasters, dessert cocktails, bottled beer, tea, and kombucha. Martin's Kickstarter(part of which is to get the shop certified organic) is 48 hours away from ending--she has about $3300 to raise--go see if you can lend a hand.
