Last night, the winners for the chef and restaurant portion of the 2012 James Beard Awards were announced. And, Seattle has not one but two winners: both Matt Dillon of Sitka & Spruce(for Best Chef Northwest) and Tom Douglas of TDR Restaurants(for Outstanding Restaurateur in the country) were declared winners. Of course, Douglas already has a Beard for Best Chef Northwest(back in 1994), but this is the first time he has won for his restaurant ownership/management skills. Jason Franey of Canlis lost to Dillon this year, but he still has a 2011 Food & Wine Best New Chef honor to console himself.
In the publication categories that were announced on Friday, Nathan Myhrvold took home two of the biggest honors. The Seattle Times' Maureen O'Hagan won for her series on childhood obesity.
