Dale Chihuly's Garden and Glass and Collections Cafe opened recently at Seattle Center, and the visuals at both places are striking. Early reports indicate that the food at Collections Cafe(served up by experienced Seattle chefs Jeff Maxfield and Ivan Szilak) is praise-worthy as well, though some report long lines.
Even noted Chihuly skeptic The Stranger's Jen Graves, who calls the Seattle Center Chihuly exhibition a "vanity museum," seems taken by the artist's vast collections on display at both the cafe and museum: "The one truly new visual idea in the museum is that he's fully outing himself as a grand master hoarder. He collects things. And his collections of Americana—everything from vintage Edward Curtis photographs to Pendleton blankets to toy train cars to bottle openers to lawn sculptures—are terrific."
