Nick's Off Market (formerly The Amber Den) opened this month with an amped-up food menu and a full bar. At the beginning of the year, owner Nick Simonton's original concept for Ballard was a neighborhood wine bar. However, after surveying customers and considering requests ranging from lutefisk to attractive, naked male servers, Simonton changed up the space only slightly—jettisoning the slippery tables that were causing glasses to break in favor of booth-seating. Simonton left the wine on-tap intact but is noticeably proud of the venue's new cocktails and sandwiches.
