Mestizo Tequila Ultra Lounge and Grill Flames Out in Belltown After Just Six Months

New, 5 comments

Mestizo Tequila Lounge and Grill (lately Mestizo's), which debuted in March at the First Avenue location previously occupied by storied meat market Twist, has closed. In addition to Twist, the space has been home to a succession of failed restaurants including Fandango, Torero, and Ventana (albeit at a different address).

The first insurmountable problem is that the space—in the 2300 block of First Avenue—is on the ground floor of the Pomeroy, a residential condo building, so there's zero tolerance from condo dwellers for noise from a streetlevel club. The second is the awkward layout inside, which has no kitchen for the north half of the space. Here's hoping that any new venture fares better.
