After 25 years, its lease is up and Von's is moving. Tomorrow and Thursday (its official last day), the venerable downtown martini bar will be discounting its food and beer by half. "While supplies last," the staff cautions, so hurry on over!
The new Von's location at the top of Harbor Steps (where Ipanema came and went) will offer a revamped menu when it reopens on Valentine's Day (if all goes according to plan), but will retain the spirit of the original, says Missy Firnstahl, daughter of Von's owner and founder Tim Firnstahl. Well, maybe not the seed-spreader hanging from the ceiling of the Pine Street location. The new space will be called Von's 1000 Spirits Gusto Bistro, and will continue the tradition of Harvard MBA Firnstahl writing a detailed "book" for the staff to cover every aspect of the guest experience.
Nobody's saying what will replace Von's on the Pine Street corridor, by the way. But we can rest assured that the new Von's will keep those iconic, indispensable $3.50 martinis.
