Raise your hand if you've ever been to dinner at Urban Enoteca or enjoyed their wildly underrated happy hour. If you're like most, you've never been. Hell, you probably didn't even know that the space, which is mainly known as a place to go wine tasting and throw parties, even served solids. While the food coming out of the event space venue in Sodo is pretty darn great, it wasn't a money maker for the concept that makes most of their profit with private and corporate functions. Says proprietor Terry Thompson in a newsletter he sent out yesterday:
On December 9th 2012, URBAN enoteca celebrated its 2nd anniversary. As we looked back at our success in the past two years, it became clear that the driving force and predominate contributors to that success were corporate, social and wedding events. It also became clear that this "private event" business model often competed with our restaurant operating hours.
Starting tomorrow, the kitchen will close. For good.
