CAPITOL HILL— Volunteer Park Cafe's Ericka Burke is teaming up with ÜbrLocal (a new Seattle startup that aims to boost the local food economy) for a locally-sourced, family-style dinner on Tuesday, October 29, at 6:30 pm. ÜbrLocal has recently launched their online marketplace, where local gardeners can swap or sell their produce and consumers can peruse the listings, making it easy for the urban food economy to grow. RAINIER VALLEY— Green Plate Special, which aims to teach practical cooking skills and gardening to low-income students, will be celebrating the opening of its new teaching garden in Rainier Valley on October 27 at 4 pm with a Garden Gala that will include bites from The Ruins (featuring produce from Green Plate Special's garden). They'll also be making flatbread in their newly donated wood-fired oven. The party is taking place at the site of their new garden located at at 2115 25th Avenue South (next to the 2100 Building on the corner of 25th Ave and S Walker). The event is free for all.
