Willkommen Altstadt! Pioneer Square's New Beer Hall is Now (Softly) Open

It opened quietly last night, and will be open for dinner this evening, which means Brendan McGill's new German beer hall, Altstadt, will be up and running full speed ahead in no time.

The space itself, which McGill says he originally scouted for a back-alley dive-bar concept he had, is mostly the work of Lex Petras and Ward Van Allen, who basically developed the entire restaurant in less than two months. They also happen to be Altstadt's front of house management team, so you can tell them, "nice work."

There's also a massive piece of art that hangs near the front of Altstadt — an aerial view of a German village. It's the work of artist Greg Boudreau, whose masterpiece you can see in action. Pretty impressive.

Now, go grab a stein and a sausage and welcome Altstadt to the neighborhood. And don't forget to look at the pretty pictures above.
