An interesting food and brews concept officially debuts tonight in SoDo at Epic Ales. The brewpub has gussied itself up with counter seating and an open kitchen to make way for Gastropod. Says Epic founder/brewer Cody Lee Morris:
We want it to be like a brewpub that is constantly rotating their tap handles and that's how we treat both the tap handles and the food. So, if you come in, say, every other week, you'll probably see a totally different list of food and beer. Morris has teamed up with chef Travis Kukull, formerly of Solo Bar, Elemental and most recently, Tilikum Place Cafe.
Travis, taking what he learned and really enjoyed about working at Elemental, we're kind of doing the same thing but with beer, and a little more loose. Basically, we're like a small plate brewpub that does really "out there" food that's always really tasty. Morris says he and Kukull met while doing a beer dinner together about three years ago. One thing led to another and they decided to open up a brewpub, which is located inside Epic Ales (inside The Trigger Building).
It's a tiny spot with 9 barstools, some counter seating that looks into an open kitchen, and a communal table. In total, the space can squeeze in about 25-30 people.
Tonight, the guys are doing $1 freshly shucked oysters to celebrate their grand opening, which kicks-off at 4 pm (hurry!). They're also doing a full menu (which you can see in the photo gallery). Regular scheduled programming will be Tuesday through Saturday, 4 to 10 pm.
