This is a Photo of Where Canlis Now Stands Circa 1932

Photo: Seattle Times Archive

Unearthed from postcards from the past, Canlis just posted this on their Facebook page with the caption:

Check this out! Dug out from the Seattle Times archives, these photos show the opening day festivities of the Aurora Bridge. Anyone recognize the site?!

The official caption The Seattle Times used for the photo: "After the official dedication ceremony, Seattleites of 1932 placed greetings to Seattle citizens of 2032 into a box and sealed it in the bridge."

Canlis now stands exactly where that patch of dirt is on the right, looking north towards Fremont. The iconic roadside restaurant was built in 1950, 18 years after this photo was taken.
