After 25 years in their old space on Pine Street, Providence Cicero heads to the new Von's, which is now located on Harbor Steps. Yes, they're good for a stiff drink or two, but how is the food? Says Cicero: "Anything on the menu involving dough is a good bet." And brioche buns that "act like soft sponges for the juicy burgers that taste like coarsely ground steak. The French onion variant sports melted Gruyere and a heap of sautéed onions, just like the soup of the same name." All in all? Cicero gives the place two-and-a-half-stars.
Tan Vinh heads to The Oak on Beacon Hill, calling the 7-month old sibling bar to Capitol Hill's Redwood "a welcome and promising addition to the neighborhood." As for the food, he says it's "a notch below gastro pub but 10 times better than dive grub quality."
The signature item is the double-cheeseburger. "The goal is to make the best burger on Beacon Hill, the owner said. It just might be. The copious side of Belgian frites are golden and delicious."
