Rainier Beer has plans to inaugurate an annual "R Day" celebrating the anniversary of restoring the Rainier "R" sitting atop the Old Rainier Brewery. (Read: an excuse to drink copious Rainier.) The festivities go down on October 24 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. and include a city-wide "Jubilee Jaunt" through several Seattle neighborhoods. The parade will be led by a giant replica of the Rainier Jubilee Can, a seasonal 16-ounce can on sale now through the New Year.
"Last year we were blown away by the outpouring of support and goodwill surrounding the restoration of the Rainier R," said Dan McHugh, chief marketing officer for Rainier Beer. "It was a demonstration of how passionate people in the Northwest are about the history and culture of Rainier. R Day is simply a way of channeling that energy once a year into the celebration of a Northwest icon."
