Jerry Seinfeld Comes to Portland for Coffee; New Wood-fired Pizza From Italian-Trained Chef

Welcome to CascadiaWire, a weekly collection of restaurant news from up-and-down the Pacific Northwest corridor.

Northeast -- Pizzeria Otto, a new wood-fired pizza joint, is opening in the long-overlooked Roseway neighborhood, filling a much-needed niche for something other than pho. Pizzaiolo Justin Clarke was trained in Italy, and has worked several ovens around town, including Portland's Via Tribunalioutpost.

Eastside Industrial -- One of Portland's best micro-roasters got a special visit last Saturday. Jerry Seinfeld and Portlandia's Fred Armisen stopped byCoava Coffee while filming an episode of Seinfeld's web hit "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." After fueling up, they wisely drove the vintage Saab 850 to Wolf and Bear's food cart for lunch.

Woodstock -- There are changes afoot at Grand Central Bakery's Portland locations. The Irvington location has closed its doors, due to unsustainable rents. But they've been busy putting the finishing touches on the new Woodstock location in Southeast Portland. It's set to open October 16, just in time for the neighborhood to try the bakery's new seasonal specials, including frosted brioche cinnamon rolls.
