Gregory Gourdet -- It was a big week for the Portland chef. The current contestant on Top Chef Boston had a strong showing in Wednesday's episode, was immortalized in a new video game released this week, and it was recently announced he'll lead the kitchen at a spinoff of Departure restaurant planned for Denver. Rumor has it he'll run both kitchens from Portland.
The Pearl -- Ohio-based Fat Head's brewery will throw open the doors to its Pearl District brewpub Monday, Nov. 3. The 42 rotating taps also feature beers brewed in house, as well as selections from guest breweries from all over. The giant, 278-seat restaurant will offer a Midwestern-skewed, comfort-food menu based on lots of meat and big portions.
Hawthorne -- French macaron maven Laura Farina is opening her new bakeshop next week in the space formerly home to Sel Gris and Otto. In addition to fancy macarons, expect homey treats like including muffins; pumpkin sticky buns; seasonal hand pies, and cookies. To go with it all, she'll serve coffee from Sterling Roasters, one of her original wholesale accounts.
