Does a space help elevate a restaurant from good to great? That's a question to consider about Dot's, Miles James' dearly departed Fremont deli that's achieved cult-like status in recent months. Some people miss Dot's more than Paseo. But unlike Paseo's Cuban roast sandwiches, Dot's porchetta is not coming back, at least not in its former home on Fremont Ave. near Book Larder and Uneeda Burger. Instead, Suga is moving in.
The Japanese concept from Eriko Sugawara is headed for the space in 2015, says The Seattle Times. Sugawara has operated the Seattle location of the national Benihana chain for almost two decades. She tells Bethany Jean Clement, "I am Japanese, but the reason I don't go to Japanese restaurants is because they're too Americanized." Time will tell if the sweet storefront at 4262 Fremont Ave. N adds to the authenticity of the concept.
Suga should be serving "Japanese family comfort food" at 4262 Fremont Ave. N by late January.
