Seattle's Oldest Irish Pub Gets a Makeover

Murphy's in Wallingford is changing things up.

Wallingford's Murphy's Irish Pub closed earlier this month and is set to reopen under new ownership, reports the Wallyhood blog. According to new co-owner Paddy O'Brien (whose name suggests he was born to own an Irish pub), the bar is "changing from a sports bar to a music venue. We’ll of course have sports and whatnot on in the background during down times, but we’re going to be featuring live Irish music during dinner, five nights a week, then bar music late night a couple nights a week. You won’t hear anything but Irish music playing overhead until after 10 o’clock at night."

The bar is undergoing some renovations to update lighting, removing "clutter," and give the place more of a "real Irish pub" look and feel. O'Brien also promises that "people will buzz about our food," with a new menu of Americanized Irish fare in the works. The bar should be reopening in a couple of weeks.
