More Options for New Year's Eve; Langdon Cook at Hugo House

CAPITOL HILL Langdon Cook (author of The Mushroom Hunters) will join poet Holly Hughes, fiction writer Jenny Hayes, slam poet Ela Barton, and journalist Ruchika Tulshyan for a free reading at Hugo House on January 8 at 7 p.m. The readings are part of a new series called Wage Slaves: Tales from the Grind. There will be free donuts and a bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN Pike Brewing will ring in the new year with a party at their downtown pub. The evening kicks off with a prix fixe dinner between 4 and 10:30 p.m. There will be live music and a midnight toast with the New Year's Eve release of Pike's 2014 Old Bawdy Barley Wine.
