Empire-builder Josh Henderson is at it again after a jam-packed 2013 saw the openings of Ballard Skillet Diner, Westward & Little Gull, Hollywood Tavern and Cone & Steiner. Now, he's set his sights on the Stadium Place building on the corner of Occidental and King for his newest endeavor, a sports bar and restaurant to be called Quality Athletics.
The 3,500-square-foot space will be organized as half dining room, half bar, and although there will be plenty of televisions and meat options on the menu, Henderson is out to put a thoughtful spin on the classic sports bar aesthetic. Seattle Mag has word that a large wood-fired grill and rotisserie will offer up a varied selection of dishes designed to accommodate both a relaxing ladies lunch or a raucous football game, and Henderson promises that televisions will go dark once the game is over to preserve a pleasant atmosphere for all.
Westward and Hollywood Tavern designer Matthew Parker will head up the interior look and feel, which will take on a quirky vibe (we're guessing this promises a little something more than your typical Seahawks paraphernalia). Also on the quirky side will be the servers' sartorial flair, which will take on a Wes Anderson-inspired bent with knee-high socks, headbands and the promise of matching tracksuits (fingers crossed).
A large patio will not only provide an outdoor space, but Henderson hopes it will also serve as a possible site for the occasional pig roast. And will an opening date in the late early September/football season range, the more roasted pig the better.
