A new kind of cafe is in the works in West Seattle, where Laura Schneider is planning Meeples, a gathering place and watering hole for the city's game enthusiasts. The West Seattle blog brings word that the new spot will be a multi-use gaming space, retail store and café, all designed as a meeting place for analog game-playing (yes, that's board games, cards, and role-playing, not video games or arcades).
The cafe element will boast organic coffee and espresso, plus local beer and cider on tap and locally-sourced wine by the glass. A modest food offering will include bites that go well with games (sticky fingers not preferred), and will include things like cheeses, smoked salmon, sandwiches and pastries. A retail section of the space will offer games to go, and there'll be no charge to come and play, hough patronizing the cafe or store will be just plain good manners.
Hours will be Sunday to Thursday, 9am to 9pm, and Friday and Saturday, 9am to 11pm, and Schneider is targeting an April opening date. Her ultimate goal? "I want big tables with enough light to play, no time limits or pressure to clear out, a great selection of games and accessories, and a community of like-minded gamers to hang with."
