Pioneer Square just scored big. Again. In the past year a slew of bars and restaurants have opened shop in the hood, with Josh Henderson's Quality Athletics and Mike Easton's Pizzeria Gabbiano slated to follow later in 2014. Add Good Bar to the list. Come summer, the new concept from Marination's Kamala Saxton and Roz Edison will open in the Pacific Commercial Bank building on 2nd Ave. and Main St. next to Easton's upcoming pizzeria.
The Good Bar team is working to create an inclusive vibe that's as welcoming to couples as it is to groups. The 2,000-square-foot historical space's interior includes oversized columns and a pair of very cool 100-year-old vaults, plus a mezzanine for gatherings and private dinners, reports Seattle Mag's Julien Perry.
Saxton and Edison are teaming up with former Marination chef Josh Kelly and his wife Nancy to launch the space. Kelly is designing an affordable menu that will be a departure from the spam sliders and kalbi tacos Marination is famous for, with options priced at $3, $6, $9, and $12. He's also developing a beer program with one time Marination cicerone (and current Stoup Brewing partner) Robyn Schumacher.
Good Bar will be open from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. nightly, at least at first. Midday hours to feed the area's lunch crowd may start up at some point as well. Look for Good Bar's doors to open in or around June.
