Ballard specialty food shop and cafe SAVOUR is closing its doors at the end of the month, according to an email owner Holly McLean sent out to fans and friends. "It's been four and a half great years at SAVOUR, and now it is time for us to move on to our next adventure and are closing the café and store," she writes.
McLean tells Eater that while she loves Ballard and couldn't be more grateful to the neighborhood for becoming such a great community of supporters for the store, she is going back to her former career in corporate travel. "I have loved being here, but working at the store full-time is a lot, and I need to get back to traveling," she says. Her cheese-loving staff is currently looking for other jobs.
The store opened in June 2009 and started serving gourmet sandwiches in its cafe in March 2010. The spot also features specialty items like domestic and imported cheeses, charcuterie, and an extensive wine and beer selection (which has been marked down 10% for closing). Their final day of business depends on the traffic in the cafe and the stock on the shelves — which is offered at 25 to 50 percent off until it runs out.
