Mioposto is launching a second restaurant on 55th St. in Ravenna. Located in the former Taverna Mazi space on a strip of neighborhood eateries including Pair and Frank's Oyster House, the wood-fired pizza spot is set to open its doors this summer.
Jeremy Hardy opened the first Mioposto location in Mt. Baker in 2006 (Hardy also owns Coastal Kitchen and launched a slew of Chow Foods restaurants.) He's spent the past few months planning the transition with Mazi staff. "We've been working on the project since August, and so we're excited," he tells Eater.
Hardy remembers first eating at Salute, an Italian restaurant that occupied the space, in the late 80s. During a tour of the very in-progress interior, Hardy told Eater details about the buildout: Picture polished cement floors, a few small lighting fixtures sourced from a trip to England close to the front door, a large chandelier over the seating area, and two oversized paintings by local artist Fran Holt. Seating for 60 includes a communal table and countertop stools that offer full view of a wood-fired oven made in Bellingham. A grab-and-go counter near the entrance will serve pastries from Macrina and coffee from Vita.
Everything on the menu that can be made in-house will be, from roasted beets to dough. As Allecia Vermillion reported on Nosh Pit, the kitchen's sole appliance is its oversized oven. "It which forces a certain honesty into everything we do," Hardy says. Mioposto's Neapolitan-style pies are cooked for 45 seconds at 1,100 degrees.
While he's not planning a "full-blown" breakfast like Coastal Kitchen, the morning menu will be offered seven days a week and include breakfast sandwiches on homemade bread, potato hash, and a kicky breakfast pizza topped mozzarella, pancetta, egg, breadcrumbs, and hot sauce made with Calabria peppers.
Additional Mioposto outposts may be in the works for Seattle and across the lake. "We're looking at opening others as well," he says. "Eventually I'd like to go to the Eastside." Opening day is scheduled for June 12, "but that's our target, so can't guarantee it," Hardy says.
