Street Donuts is going brick-and-mortar near the center of Greenwood. The donut trailer is headed for the Ampersand Coffee space at 85th and Dayton come summer.
Owner Will Haagenson and his wife Janna bought the three-year-old roving donut trailer a few months back with the intention to expand into a permanent space that can serve wine and as much "local beer as possible" by the pint and take-home growler. It didn't take long for them to find the right location. "There's a donut void in Greenwood and we need to fill that," Haagenson tells Eater. "Were really excited because I don't think anyone else is doing what we're trying to do with donuts and beer. I think it's the perfect combination."
In addition to hot, made-to-order mini-donuts dusted with toppings like ginger and cardamom or dressed up with dark chocolate sauce, Street Donuts will offer savory waffle sandwiches, including one with lox and dill cream cheese. Plus, the cafe will pour Herkimer Coffee for the early crowd. Hours aren't finalized, but Haagenson is thinking of opening at 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. to fuel morning commuters and staying open until 9 p.m. seven days a week.
The couple will get the keys to the space in a few weeks and begin a light remodel to make room for a new donut machine. Look for Street Donuts to serve its first mini fritters by July 1.
