Heads up, Amazonians: Lick Pure Cream is getting ready to serve scoops of thai iced tea and honey bacon cornbread ice cream inside the 'Zaw Pizza location in South Lake Union.
Michael Darby has been selling his Lick Pure Cream inside Capitol Hill's 'Zaw (and in take-away containers at 'Zaw's other locations) since the summer of 2012. Darby tells Eater that 'Zaw offered him a portion of its space on Yale at Republican, which is currently only selling take and bake pizzas at night. He'll open shop at 11 a.m. and serve ice cream plus to-go pizza slices for lunch.
Darby fell into the ice cream business while moonlighting in the kitchen on movie sets in Hollywood (apparently an unnamed actor went nuts for Dary's blueberry ginger avocado ice cream.) He packed samples on a plane headed for Seattle in a cooler on dry ice, handed one to the owner of 'Zaw after he rolled into town, and began selling scoops in the Pine St. store soon after.
A Lick Kickstarter campaign will kick off in a few weeks to help Darby purchase kitchen equipment and continue to grow Lick's burgeoning wholesale business. Lick starts selling cones at the SLU 'Zaw May 24; hours are 11 a.m. to 10 a.m. seven days a week.
