Zap Verr is opening in the former Tawon Thai space in Fremont. Owner Kay Fuengarom says the name is "Thai slang" for "overly delicious." Fuengarom's uncle owned Tawon Thai, then passed the space along to her and a partner when he retired last March.
The new owners are completing a remodel and finalizing a completely revamped menu, which will focus on Isaan cuisine from northeastern Thailand. (Fuengarom name-checks papaya salad, grilled beef, and sticky rice.) She's also bringing in a full bar program and a "grill bar" where diners watch a chef cooking.
Zap Verr's doors will be open this summer, possibly by the end of June.
