Willows Inn chef Blaine Wetzel tied for the Rising Star Chef of the Year award at tonight's 2014 James Beard Awards ceremony. In a speech at Lincoln Center in Manhattan, Wetzel told the crowd, "I just want to say how awesome it is to be in the company of so many chefs that I admire." He was joined on stage by staff from the Lummi Island restaurant.
Wetzel shares the win with Jimmy Bannos Jr. from Chicago's The Purple Pig. It's the first time the Rising Star award has been given to more than one chef.
