Seth Caswell is taking over Beach Store Cafe on Lummi Island, which just happens to be owned by Willows Inn staff, including James Beard Rising Star Chef of the Year Blaine Wetzel. Seattle Mag's Julien Perry reports that Willows Inn took the keys for the only other place to eat out on Lummi last year.
Caswell, who launched the dearly departed Queen Anne restaurant Emmer & Rye (any takers?) and worked as an executive chef for Google, is revamping the restaurant near the ferry landing. He tells Seattle Mag, "...there's absolutely no reason why this place can't be a destination on its own."
The Willow's unfussy sibling will feature less expensive menu items, including pizza, burgers, and entrees made with ingredients that ring true with Wetzel's hyper-local sensibilities.
Caswell and crew will complete Beach Store Cafe's refresh by Memorial Day weekend.
