After a soft opening during last weekend's Fremont Fair, Bluebird Microcreamery's soda fountain officially makes its debut today. With soda jerks making floats, shakes, and sundaes behind a salvaged and restored pharmacy soda counter, Bluebird is also waiting on a liquor license to start serving boozy floats using Theo Chocolate Milk Stout and Caffe Vita Porter brewed at its Phinney Ridge and Capitol Hill locations.
Just yesterday, a window painter hand-applied 24-karat gold leaf window logos. It's one of the finishing touches owner Josh Reynolds is checking off the list before his grand opening at 5:30 p.m. He completely gutted the former Bluebird scoop shop in order to rebuild and install the fountain, telling Eater it was carefully restored and integrated: "We did a bunch of research for this, to make it as faithful as possible. It's not meant to be a gimmick. It's meant to be authentic." Other menu additions will include Brooklyn-style egg creams and phosphates. "I'm from New York. My mom was born in Brooklyn," Reynolds says. "My mom used to make me egg creams growing up."
